High School Students

Welcome current High School students or recent graduates!

Are you a current junior or senior in High School looking to take classes at Golden West while still in High School? Then read the K-12 Early Start section.

If you are a High School senior follow the below steps in the category outlined for current seniors.

If you have recently graduated, follow the information listed under High School graduate.

K-12 Early Start students:

As a current Junior or Senior student in High School did you know you can take classes for FREE at community college? If you didn’t now you do!

It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

1)   Pick up the carbon copy form labeled K-12 Early start form from either your High School Career Center or from our Admissions and Records office.

2)   List on the form all of the potential classes you are interested in trying to register for (*PE classes are restricted). List as many as possible. This form just clears you to be allowed to register for them; it does not mean you have to register for all of them.

3)   Have your parent sign and take it to your school’s main office for the principal’s signature. This is basically telling us that it will not impact your current workload as a high school student.  Turn this form into our Admissions and Records office. They will then give you instructions.

Current High School Seniors:

If you are currently attending High School in our local area, ranging from Newport, Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, Westminster, Huntington Beach areas you need to check with your High School Counselor or Career Center to see if you are eligible for the SOAR program. If you are, read below. If you are considered an out of area school then you will follow the new student registration process after you graduate.

SOAR students:

The SOAR program is the best deal in town for our graduating seniors in our local area. It stands for Student, Orientation, Assessment, and Registration. Basically it is a way for us to take all of our registration steps and put them together for you as a seamless transition from High School to college.

Why is it important? It gives you PRIORITY REGISTRATION for your first semester! This guarantees your ideal schedule and classes for your first semester.

Check with your High School Career Center to find out when we are giving the SOAR tests (Math and English Assessment) on your campus. You will need to sign up to sit for these tests and you will complete your application to the school during this testing time. After these tests, we will mail you your results and your orientation time and date. Don’t miss your orientation (you can change the date). The later you put it off, the later your registration date. You will then register for your classes online (refer NEW STUDENT webpage under the registration step for details).

High School graduate:

If you graduated high school and this is your first incoming semester, but you missed your deadline for the SOAR program or you attended an out of local area high school, please refer to the NEW STUDENTS webpage (you are currently under HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS). Follow the NEW STUDENT instructions.

This is an exciting time for you and we are here to help in any way that we can.

Welcome to College!

Best Regards,

Anna
