Golden West College mingles with the Pros at the Vans Off the Wall Skatepark Opening on Saturday

Golden West College was present Saturday, March 22nd for the Vans Off the Wall Skatepark and Jack’s Garage skate shop grand opening celebration. GWC provided free parking, free t-shirts, and the chance to win a $100 Vans gift card for the neighboring event. The day’s festivities included an official ribbon cutting, skateboarding, autograph signings from Vans pro skateboarders and the inaugural “SoCal Sole of Fame” induction ceremony honoring local legends.

GWC participated in the opening with a vendor booth at the event and the campus provided free parking for the day. GWC athletes volunteered in the booth and were able to mingle with a mix of over a thousand local friends and families, Vans executives, city officials, and past and present skateboarding legends.
The 42,500 square foot park complex is located on Center Avenue just east of the Golden West College campus. It is free to the public, features two lighted skate areas catering to both bowl and street skating. The park includes a Taco Surf snack bar, and the onsite Jacks Garage Skate Shop will double as a fully-stocked skate shop with top brands, skate equipment and rentals. Vans is making a long-term, multi-million dollar investment in the Huntington Beach community with the project, and Golden West College was happy to be a part of their opening day.
Big name skateboarder Geoff Rowley took full advantage of the GWC booth by teaching his young son the concept of the corn hole game.
