Giving the Tools for Success: GWC’s 38th Annual Chicano Latino Conference was held Friday, November 15th

Over 600 students from 13 high schools attended Golden West College’s 38th Annual Chicano Latino event on Friday, November 15th. This event is a huge success each year, bringing local high school students on campus for an all inclusive event, BBQ and entertainment. This year’s keynote speaker was Gustavo Arellano, editor of OC Weekly, and part-time lecturer of Chicano and Chicana studies at Cal State Fullerton.

Students had the opportunity to divide into groups to attend various different workshops throughout the day, which included topics on Financial Aid, Education Pathways, and core academic knowledge and skills. Entertainment was provided by DJ Aristotle, and lunch was served by Taco’s & Co. Students visited booths to learn more about Coast Colleges’ programs and services, and entered a drawing to win prizes. All students left with a t-shirt, but more importantly, they left inspired to go to college.
